Inline with what I have read once on a book by Srikumar Rao, this video by Sadia talks about exactly such a mental model—which is a flawed one—many people hold in the pursuit of happiness.
The if…then… model seems to be the root cause of unhappiness, since it puts happiness as a product that one can feel only after some requirements fulfilled. Also, this particular model oversimplifies happiness, something that by nature is way too complex.
Happiness doesn’t work that way in real life, as we all know it.
To get an idea of what the song is about, here is a comment from an online contributor:
Christmas Lights is one that metaphorizes the lights and decorations of the festive season as beacons of warmth and hope for those feeling left in the cold during Christmas. The song follows a first-person perspective of a person mourning the verbally violent breakup of a relationship on Christmas Eve, with the heartening spirit of the holidays to guide him and others to a happier and merrier Christmas, as it should be.
Kind of a cool song, isn’t it?
What does it mean to you personally? 😉
